Are You an East Asian Immigrant Woman in the U.S.?

Your Story, Your Space, and Your Art Matter

Join a creative tent-artmaking project where we make art, share stories, and co-create a space for your storytelling inside and outside the yellow tent

I am Pin-Hsuan Tseng, a Ph.D. candidate in Art Education with minors in Women’s, Gender, & Sexuality Studies and Curriculum & Instruction. My dissertation explores transnational storytelling through feminist tent art pedagogy. IRB approval number is STUDY00026924

What You’ll Do

Session 1 (1 hour, online or in person)
An informal conversation about your transnational journey.

Session 2 (1-1.5 hours, in person)
Set up the yellow tent with me in a space you choose. This session involves tent-based artmaking using materials connected to your story.

Session 3 (0.5-1 hour, online or in person)
A reflective dialogue with optional sharing of your experiences and artwork.

You may schedule the three sessions together or separately, and you can choose the time and place that work best for you.

You will receive free art materials and snacks during the tent-artmaking session. You will also be part of a creative space to reflect, connect, and express your story.

As a thank-you for completing all three sessions, you will receive a $30 gift card and have the option to show your artwork on this website as part of a transnational feminist archive (with your consent).

You’re Invited If…

  • Self-identify as immigrant women from East Asian countries (China, Japan, Mongolia, North Korea, South Korea, or Taiwan)

  • Note: The term “immigrant” can carry many meanings and is not limited to visa status. The Tent Art project centers on how artmaking expresses transnational stories. Please feel free to interpret “immigrant woman” in a broad way that reflects your lived experience.

  • Must be 18 years or older

  • Currently living in the United States (priority given to those near State College, Pennsylvania) If there are more applicants than expected, I will prioritize immigrant women who have lived in the United States for more than five years.

  • Interested in storytelling through artmaking

  • Able to communicate in English or Mandarin

  • Available to complete all three sessions (3-4 hours) of the project (interview and artmaking)

  • The researcher will select participants who best match the research criteria and will confirm the final selection with applicants.
